Principal Report

Mr Lachlann Carter, CEO of the organisation, 100 Story Building will be joining Mooroolbark College as ‘Principal for the Day’ on Thursday 7th September.  www.100storybuilding.org.au
Lanchlann will be working with visual communication students, the students from the Writing for Writers class and our school student leaders.  We look forward to welcoming him into the College.

On Friday 8th September parents and guardians will receive access to their child’s Interim Reports and access will also be available to book Parent Teacher Interviews held on Wednesday 20th September. A reminder that students are not required at the College on this day so they can accompany their parents/guardians to the interviews.  Interim Reports are a snap shot of your child’s progress at a point mid-way through Term 3. If you require your login details for Compass please contact the College on 9727 8100.

Currently we are part way through our four year review of our current Strategic Plan. On Wednesday 23rd August the College Leadership met with our reviewer Carol Every, Duncan Cant from DET, Carol Wells, College Council President and two highly experienced Principals to start the review process.

Some of the key issues discussed included:

• NAPLAN growth data

• VCE data

• Assessing against AUSVELS (Vic Curriculum)

• The importance of moderation, collaboration and a documented (guaranteed and viable curriculum) in high performing schools

• Student voice in the classroom

• Data literacy of staff to inform the teaching and learning program

• What do we value at Mooroolbark College?  How do we model it?

• Student opinion survey data

Our review continues next week as we further explore the College’s achievements over the past four years and set our goals and targets for the next four years.

Wear it Purple Day

Wear it Purple Day

The College celebrated Wear it Purple Day. The day was all about celebrating LGBTIQ youth being who they are, and pictured are just some of the students who attended to show their support, whether they are a part of the LGBTIQ community or an ally.
This year, a safe space was set up in the library (with a display of ex students' responses about being an LGBTIQ student at Mooroolbark College in the background) at lunchtime with a screening of 'Gayby Baby' and an in depth discussion with a panel of staff afterwards.

Mt Buller Snowboarding and Skiing Day Trip 2017

Mt Buller Snowboarding and Skiing Day Trip 2017

On Monday 28th August, 52 students from Years 7-12 and 7 staff hit the slopes of Mt Buller. It was an early start to the day, leaving Mooroolbark College at 5am. The weather at Mt Buller was beautiful and we were treated with blue skies for the day. For some students this was the first time they had seen snow and was a very exciting experience. Students had a lesson in the morning learning new skills in skiing and snowboarding or refining their abilities. After lunch, we all headed out to try our skills down the slopes. It was definitely a fun day filled with challenges, laughs and new experiences. Thank you to the staff that helped make the day run so smoothly – Ms. Rosendale, Mr. Mccormick, Mr. Olarenshaw, Mr. Donald and Ms. De Hommel (pre-service teacher).

College Captain

College Captain

Veronica Bell Yellow House Captain

What do you hope to achieve this year in your role?
In my role as a captain I would like to develop my confidence level so that I will be able to speak in front of massive crowds without feeling uneasy.

Who is a leader that you admire and why do you admire them?
I admire a woman named Rosa Louise McCauley Park.  She was an activist in the Civil Rights Movement, whom the Unites States Congress called “the first lady of civil rights” and “the mother of the freedom movement’.  I admire Rosa for many reasons, however the main reason is that she stood up for what she believed in, no matter what.

What are some of your goals for the future?
My goals are to be successfully gain a position in the medical field and study for a role within a hospital.

Final sentence for readers.
Stay true to yourself and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
