We had our first General Assembly for 2016. A general assembly provides a great opportunity for the whole school to celebrate the achievements of our students. This one was no different. I had the pleasure of handing out the following achievements:

  • 10 Principal Awards to students who have gained 50 merits across a range of subjects. These are highly sort after awards as they add 50 house points to the House Cup tally.
  • I had the pleasure of presenting the Red House Captains with the 2016 Swimming Carnival trophy
  • I presented the age group swimming champions with their trophies. Special mention needs to be made of Courtney Brown, current College captain. She has received the age group swimming champion each year from Year 7. That is six trophies over six years. Well done.
  • Our Student Representative Council received their badges for 2016. Mooroolbark College is in a fortunate position to have a dedicated and active SRC which provides a voice for the students of Mooroolbark College to College Leadership. In addition they run activities for the students and raise money for both support student lead initiatives in the College and to support students competing at an elite level.

At the General Assembly Mr Innes announced the 2016 College Musical. This year the musical is Shylock Holmes obviously based on the activities of Sherlock Holmes. Mr Peter Marz will be directing the musical. Auditions will be held in early term 2 and the production will be held at the Mooroolbark Community Centre in Term 3. I encourage students to audition for the musical, especially our new Year 7s who will have their first chance to participate in this amazing opportunity and learning experience.
