This week has been all about our School Production. It is obvious how well all the different members of the production team have worked together to create a wonderful show. It takes all types of people to make a production work and school productions are a great opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. No matter what role you have played, be it as an actor, in the band, working on costumes, back of stage, administration or as part of the technical crew, on behalf of the Mooroolbark College community, thank you. However, special thanks must go to Mr Peter Marz, who year after year volunteers to produce the College production.  He continually gives so much of his time and energy to make this a great opportunity for Mooroolbark College students.

Today we welcome our Chinese Sister School, Wujiang Senior Middle School to our College. The relationship we have with our Wujiang Senior Middle School is a very important part of our College’s program. It provides an opportunity for the staff from both schools to learn together or for the students to become more culturally aware and make international friendships.

On Tuesday 1st August, the Maroondah Careers Group ran its annual Careers Information Night. This event has run for over 15 years and again this year provided a great opportunity for students from all over the outer east to access a range of information about Universities and TAFE providers, employment opportunities, apprenticeships and other post school options. The Pathways staff at Mooroolbark College played a significant role in the organisation of this event, especially Jodie Tilley and Eva Woodward who were the key organisers of the entire event.

Today we awarded the mid-year Academic Awards during an extended Home Group. From Years 7 to 11 the College awarded 146 Credit Certificates, 134 Distinction Certificates, 78 High Distinction Certificates and 44 Honours Certificates. 5 DUX Awards were also presented. I wish to congratulate the following year level DUX students:

Year 7 – Dylan Lamb (Red House)

Year 8 – Caitlyn O’Rorke (Blue House)

Year 9 – Shae Libbis (Yellow House)

Year 10 – Kellie Stevens (Red House)

Year 11 – Megan O’Rorke (Blue House)

Congratulations and well done to all our DUX recipients.

I was fortunate enough to be invited to hand out the awards at the Blue House Assembly where Mr U’ren, Blue House Leader spoke about sacrifice. He defined it as the act of giving up something which is important or valuable in order to achieve something else. All the students who received awards today have made some sort of sacrifice to ensure their achievements gained them an award.
