The SRC are off to a good term! Earlier in term 2, the students collectively raised a sum of $1400 during our free dress day. The money has been put towards five 2-metre bench seats, which will go near the oval area early next week with the help of some Year 12 students donating their time and effort into installing them in.

Last term we saw four of our members attend the Victorian SRC Student Voice Workshop, which aimed to enable students, teachers and principals to work together on common issues and drive positive change in schools, communities and the education system. We aim to use all skills and tools from this interactive workshop, and plan to continue to make positive changes around our school. Thank you to Bethany Shegog, Emma Haywood, Justine Stacey and Bec Doolan!

During the term 2 school holidays three of our representatives attended the Victorian SRC Congress camp in July. It is run by students, for students and over the course of three days, all members who attended were able to interact in useful workshops and given the chance to speak out, and spark change. Victorian SRC Congress brought students together from all across the State to debate, decide and act on the issues that really matter to their education. It was certainly a good chance to engage and interact with other people from all over the state, and to see what other schools are doing well. The collective genius and positive energy of students from all corners of the state simply could not be contained. New friendships were formed, and on top of all that some of the best the College has to offer were representing Mooroolbark College.

Thank you to SRC President Ben Donald Wilson, Justine Stacey and Tiani Welch-Phillips!

Stepping into term 3 change to our school in a positive way will continue to form. One of our representatives so kindly has taken time and effort into crafting together 4 amazing pieces of Aboriginal artwork, which will be formed into 4 murals for each house. Bethany Shegog’s creativity and understanding of Aboriginal art work will continue to assist students, teachers and parents in the way we can continue to celebrate the diversity in our college. Last term we celebrated NAIDOC week, were students were able to get a better understanding of the Aboriginal culture in our school and further community; this will further improve in the coming weeks as students will play a huge part in the making of the murals. We ask that process is respected as it may be long, and that co-operation with the people in your home group will be implemented during the making of these murals. More details will immerge about the look and the role the students will play. It would be appreciated if everyone could embrace this project with open arms and a thoughtful mind.

One final friendly reminder is that we ask all students, teachers and parents to complete the SRC Canteen Survey on Compass in Insights. When logged on to Compass via computer it will pop up on the right side where ‘My News’ is located This will give the kind ladies in the canteen an idea of the changes, and food recipes you would like to see in the school and menu.

I hope everyone is well rested and takes time to reflect and observe their progress coming into this new term. Remember to check in with yourself and seek help if needed.
